UK-based rapper, Little Simz, proves that talent is not contingent on age. At the ripe age of 9, she discovered her love of music, particularly hip hop. In reference to the muses behind her composition, Simz states, “On a whole I’m inspired by life, I enjoy going through different experiences which helps to mold me as an individual and is portrayed through my music.” She began performing at local youth clubs, then upgraded to performing at venues in Hackney – with the likes of Leona Lewis – resulting in increased exposure. Simz became one of the youngest emcees on BBC Radio 1Xtra.

The 19-year-old has garnered support from fellow artists and radio support from BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra. On her latest project, Blank Canvas, Simz sought to draw the connection between paintings and life. “The whole idea behind Blank Canvas is that we as individuals are basically blank canvases,” she says. The mix conveys every facet of human emotion, while aptly painting a vivid picture of the ups and downs of life. Simz further expounds, “As we go through life, the experiences we have are like the paint and strokes that help to mold us and become the creation of our painting.” Here, Life + Times premieres Little Simz’ Blank Canvas.
