Liam Bailey, British singer-songwriter, is bringing a fresh hybrid sound to the world of R&B. Although it would be simple to pigeonhole Liam as an outside-of-the-box soulful crooner – his music is much more intricate than the specifications of one genre. “Breaking” and “Villain” from Liam’s debut album, Definitely Now (out now on August 19th on Flying Buddha/Masterworks), consists of Jimi Hendrix-like guitar riffs that sets this release apart from a standard soul album. Rockabilly garage rock and blues elements add to the many emotional layers of the album.
As if working with producer Salaam Remi (Kendrick Lamar, Miguel, Nas) on his debut album wasn’t enough to be proud of, Liam was first discovered by Amy Winehouse. The late singer helped Liam to release two EPs on her Lioness Records label. Regarding the composition of Definitely Now, Liam says, “To make this album, I tried to channel my deepest intentions and sense of self, whilst also collaborating with incredible people. I pushed myself into strange and uncomfortable territories at times to make sure no stone was left unturned. The creative process was about capturing a true reflection of who I am at this time.”

l want to buy this album! where can l get it from?
Great Job, Liam! This is a great album. I can def. hear some Jimi Hendrix influences in here. It’s refreshing to hear a new artist bring back blues, infused with rock and soul. Hearing this album made me reminisce of Amy Winehouse a bit. She’d be ridiculously proud of you right now. This is your time to make your mark in the music scene and bless us with your undeniable talent. I’ll be seeing you in Brooklyn on the 19th. Peace, bredren.
