Opened in September 2004, Dover Street Market is a 1,200-square-meter store in the center of London, conceived by Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons. It was initiated as a fresh approach to the upmarket retail environment, and since its inception, both selected designers and artists have been selling their designs inside DSM, yet are left with the freedom to determine their own spaces and identity within the store. Bi-yearly, Dover Street Market holds a ‘Tachiagari’ where the store is closed down for several days; the interior again evolves, with designers coming in to reconfigure their spaces and introduce new season merchandise. Life+Times takes you inside DSM before the next metamorphosis takes shape.
