Planting Fresh Roots Out West

For the first time since 1998, Roots opened a new retail location in the United States. Situated in Venice, California, the store opened in a modest, white beach house that was built in the 1920’s. In restoring the structure into a store, the goal was to maintain its comfortable feel by re-using most of the original materials, adding vintage leather furniture and providing an airy feel with natural light. The result is an inviting, cozy 700-square foot shingled cottage, which opens up beautifully onto a wooden deck. Inside is a curated selection of Roots apparel and leather goods. One wall features handcrafted bags on a vintage George Nelson bookshelf from the 1950’s, across from which are classic salt and pepper sweats. In addition to furniture pieces, a decorative canoe hangs above the cashier’s counter. Here, we take a look inside a little slice of Canadian heaven.
