T Magazine famously commissioned artists and designers to interpret the New York Times’ ‘T’ logo. When they approached me to do one, I knew I wanted to do something distinctly “English.” I was excited by the idea of paganism and “the wicker man” at the time. Setting a huge wicker structure on fire seemed like an exciting prospect, so once again, I turned to my dear friend Jacob Sutton to shoot it, (we really just love setting stuff on fire). This was quite controversial at the time, as The New York Times were going through a turbulent period – seeing the famous “T” burst into flames seemed to some people almost symbolic of what was happening to the company.
