“Since the birth of DOB, he has come to possess a rather protean face, shifting shape constantly and linking in the process with Polynesian art, pop art, psychedelic art, and even the traditional Japanese styles of rinpa and Momoyama era nihonga. This is just one of those many forms. 727 is the name of a Japanese makeup brand and the idea to use it as the title for this painting came when I saw a sign reading “727 Cosmetics” from the window of a bullet train. However, it is of course also the name of a model of airplane built by Boeing.”
