“Numb” – Rihanna featuring Eminem

“I have to say that me and Oak did our thing, but the man behind the madness of that beat was Flip. He’s a part of my production company. He’s amazing. I did a record called ‘Loud’ for a rapper from Cali named T. Mills last year. I was in the studio working on the “Loud” beat and Flip was working on another beat. I was taking a break and I could hear something crazy coming from Flip’s headphones. He played it for me and those first initial bars that you hear in “Numb” had me going crazy. Then he freaked the drums and 808s and it was just so great. We never got to send that beat to T. Mills. We got the call to go to London to work on the Rihanna album. I couldn’t go, because my son’s due date was during that London trip. I sent Flip to London and told him to take that beat to see if he’d come up with anything while out there. Oak heard it while out there and did his shit on it. Sam Dew wrote it while out there in London. When Flip and Oak came back from the London trip, I asked how it went. They said they weren’t sure if they had come up with anything decent enough. We later found out that Rihanna loved the song.”
