“I actually worked on that record with my friend Blood Diamonds. We’ve been working on a lot of songs and projects together. He added his flavor to the beat that I had. Sometimes I’ll have ideas that I feel can go even further, so I ask him if he can touch those ideas up. He’s a guy that I go to just to give it a certain sound and a creative touch to the elements that I use in my productions. I was actually in a session with Tinashe for about a week and we worked on a bunch of songs, but this song is actually one that I gave to her after the session. When I played it for her she was like, “This is dope,” and so I gave her the beat. She wrote to it and sent it back to me and from there we kind of structured the song a little bit more. For the most part, she wrote it without me really being there and kind of made it happen. After hearing what she did with the record we began piecing it together and mixing it and stuff. Dev came in through her. It’s funny, because I know Dev also, but we didn’t know we were going to be working on the same record until it came out. It’s the first record he and I have worked on together. It’s a standout record on the album just in the sense of the sound of it. It gives her album more of a new sound. It has this cool and refreshing vibe to it. I’m glad the response to the record has been what it has been.”
