Arena History

The Nets have called seven different locations home since joining the ABA –as the New Jersey Americans– for its inaugural season in 1976-68. The team originally planned on a Manhattan home, but ended up playing out of New Jersey’s Teaneck Armory before bouncing to Long Island the following season. After three stops on the Island, the Nets returned to the Garden State, playing four seasons at the Rutgers Athletic Center prior to moving to the Meadowlands in 1981. They remained there for 29 years (through three arena name changes), before shifting to Newark’s Prudential Center in 2010.
