“It’s a 3×4 foot wood panel that I carved the image into. I laid cannon fuse into the grooves and covered the whole panel with paper. Sometimes it’s hard for me to draw or paint without getting overly technical. Drawing with gunpowder was a good way to pull myself away from a perfect rendering, and bring a bit of violence into the process. I always appreciate artwork that is more an artifact of an action rather than just an aesthetic statement.” – Artist Scott Campbell on the creation of his piece “Strike Anywhere.”
