Working at the Booga Basement Studio
With The Score, Clef, Lauryn and Pras decided they were going to build their own studio. They said lets do the album in a house. My father gave me, Clef and my brother the basement of his house. We laced it with equipment. I had just come out of school to become a recording engineer. I’ve played bass guitar since I was eleven-years-old. Bass is my thing, but I wanted to get into studio production. Once we built that studio we all basically lived in that basement. That was home base. We were in that basement vibing off of a lot of things. We had John Forte, The Outsidaz – everyone was in there and we were just trying things. I’ve always loved equipment, so I just started buying all types of equipment. We had these huge speakers. The whole house would basically shake. We had the loudest studio in New Jersey. My shit was loud. So many people came through the Booga Basement. Akon, Erykah Badu, Queen Latifia, we even had Bono in the Booga Basement to do some work. That was a special spot. I can never forget that.
