First of all, Natasha smashed that record. When I was writing records during that time I would try to out-sing on the demos, because I didn’t understand that the demos were just the demos. I was still in the mindset of being an artist and singing and I still hadn’t transcended into being an actual songwriter. When I finally heard her version I was like “Man, she just smashed me.” She just took whatever I thought I was doing on that demo to a whole other level.
