“‘Don’t Leave Me’ is how I came in the game. It was the first record I got credited for. That record just made me feel like it was all worth it. On your journey up you don’t always have a lot of fans or people supporting or believing in what you’re doing. You have to embrace being the oddball with everybody looking at you like you’re bugging and telling you that what you’re doing is dumb. You have to be able to shake all of that off and still pursue what you feel like is in your heart and what you’re destined to do. You may not get a lot of positive reinforcement on your way up. It can be a real negative road, so just being able to play a record for Teddy Riley, who is one of the programming Gods and one of the greatest producers of all time and him wanting to use a record I did just proved that it was all worth the work and ridicule. You know what I’m saying? At that moment I was like, ‘I knew ya’ll was wrong.'”
