Beautiful execution of marketing, and building hype. The uncertainty of not knowing when it will drop is excellent. Push it back HOV, let’em wait, the streets are talking and the hype is just beginning to snowball, I’m certain you can break 1.5 million sales in the first week. This is the strategy Julius Cesar used to claim Rome and the one Alexander The Great used to build his empire. NewOrleansTalentProductions@yahoo.com

@clobberbop, I agree wholeheartedly! I understand having this ad up for a few days, but this is ridiculous. I check L+T regularly in hopes of seeing some more awesome content, but apparently you guys care more about plugging the new album (however dope it may be) than publishing legitimate articles. My patience is wearing thin, you guys might soon lose an avid reader. Good to know I’m not alone…

Just because the sample comes from an incredible song doesn’t automatically make this a good track. The sample is missing a creative touch and seems like it was forced together, making it almost annoying to listen to. The beat ruins the integrity of Otis’s ability to dominate a recording, and it almost makes me feel bad for him knowing that his music is available for people to butcher like this. Your marketing only made it possible for more people to see how awful this really is.

  176. Will Tolley says:

It’s a good track but it’s mastered too loud and compressed massively. It suffers from the same problems as Mbdtf, the music beyond the excessive compression is no doubt beautiful but you can’t truly hear it properly as it’s just so damn loud. It should be full of dynamics and sound all analogue-y but it’s been compressed to sounding like a ringtone. I bet the unmastered final mix of it in the studio sounds stunning, but when it’s mastered all the same volume depth and 3-dimensionality is impossible. I never understand why people work so hard and spend so long creating music, if they’re going to let somebody use boundless compression in the mastering stage; it’s the equivalent of spending 1000s of hours filming a monumental movie then lowering it to the quality of phone app before release.

Wow some of you are a bunch of MORONS. H*A*M isn’t/wasn’t a finished track when it released! But you’re saying it’s BETTER THAN THIS? Just proves how dumb some of you really are. This is nice ass track to sit back and vibe to. Love it. And for those of you talkin about how it’s over mastered and the vocals are too loud….Have you ever thought maybe that was DONE ON PURPOSE as to give the “old school” vibe to the track. Yall don’t know good music. Relax.

  184. All of these cats that are complaining about Jay and Kanye speaking on the things they are haters!!!! Go do something with your life man. Y’all are real annoying. I don’t have a private plane and may never have one but I damn sure will not hate on the next man who made it. # Get your weight up not your hate up.

  185. Greg Olmeda says:

Its an Otis Redding sample, that’s why its mastered this way. Because the original recording is vinyl.

  188. ALL yall who say this track garbage are fuckin idiots!!

  189. Great song. For those of you who said that it is too loud, it’s supposed to be because it gives you an old school vibe (real music). Second those of you who said that they are too magniloquent with their verses, get use to it because they’ve been bragging about themselves since they both released their first album. Love the song because of the witty verses and because of the use of Otis Redding in the background. Overall A.

  202. B Bourne says:

If you are truly a fan of Kanye or Jay-Z–which some of you aren’t because you have nothing else better to do other than to troll–how can you dislike this song? It embodies everything that both artists are: flashy with a classic hip-hop sound, amazing lyricists, and arrogant. And this song has a little bit of everything. Not to mention, ‘Ye and Jigga flow so well together, it’s just not fair. Keep on hating haters, because your opinions won’t matter when this album debuts at #1, is an instant classic, and goes triple platinum.

  203. Jamar Johnson says:

Ham was under rated if you ask mee…the song was for everybody on they grind tryna make it happen ..the beat the lyrics from both and subject matter was ridiculous and the craft was unique but i guess not ready for our current audience stuck in lazy land.. why would a hater like a song implementing going hard as a mother (you a hater) lol you dont do ish

  215. Raul Felipe says:

@Will Tolley at first I was thinking they where over compressing and distorting Hov’s vocals at a certain point as an artistic method. But as I continued to listen to the track I agree it is overly compressed and lost a lot of what ever depth, imaging, dynamics and analog sound it had in the final mix in the studio when it was Mastered like you indicated. And that should never be the case in the aspect of Mastering. But hey this could just be the rough version they put out for us to get a taste of the track. Or this can just be what the final production is. Guess we have to find out on the release date

  216. B.f. Thomas says:

Any question who the greatest is?!?! I love the Otis sample with no hook, but i can do without the last 10 sec please cant deal with that to much. But so far HAM was fire and this Otis track is something different and smooth. The evolution of RAP you want jay-z on his old sh*t go buy his old album, Kanye West, need i say more. This album is gonna be Crazy. Either love or leave it alone. Period

  247. Noah Namgoong says:

This is a great song……. the beat is amazing and so is the rapping….however there is a very weak bass line (if any) so it makes the beat a little weak as far as power of the beat goes. However the song is amazing, and a classic. Watch the throne is going to be considered one of the greatest if not the greatest collab album of all time.

  248. Jackie S says:

#EPIC exactly what i expect from Jay and Ye, much Love and Respect to you both!

  249. Macbook 4sale says:

Yeah Steffen glad you agree. When I heard it I thought it was the new “thriller” Jay and Kanye said they were going to make. The MJ sample is just sick and it would go along with the Jay and Kanye “thriller/MJ” mindset for this album. There have been very few beats that have been that infectious to the ear, I just listen to it over and over again. Thunder by Jruthunder on youtube. Listen to it Jay and pay us the finder’s fee later. – A Fan

  250. OK OK SHOR! THIS IS FIREEEEEEEEEE!

  251. Richy Spokes says:

@Macbook 4sale Glad to see someone else thinks that beat is insanely good, kanye and jay need to get on it!

  252. Macbook 4sale says:

Man Richy if Jay-z and Kanye got on that Thunder beat I might faint, LOL. They might bring MJ back man that beat is so sick. Its as addicting as Heart of the City or Allure on certain days for me. What are the chances Jay or Kanye are actually looking at this post?

  253. Macbook 4sale says:

I’m neglecting to state the obvious. Otis is Stupid ridiculous!

  254. Jamar Johnson says:

  258. Effie says:

Can’t stop listening to this song….sounds so soulful doesn’t it ?

  259. Yeah, Thunder should be used cause that beat is FIRE!!!! I could see both Hov & Yeezy going off of it. It would fit perfectly for this album too…

  260. Anonymous says:

    @thunderbeat

    Please explain this to me

P.S. Yes I see this from time to time!

    – Andy WarHOV

  261. Ronnie Smith says:

you guys must be in Jru’s crew.. lol. hey Hov, “thunder beat” is an average instrumental that needs to be revised thoroughly before it’s remotely good enough to be placed on such a historic album. these people crying wolf, u can return to your regularly scheduled program bro.

  262. @LifeandTimes

There is a beat on youtube titled “Thunder” that says it is by Jay-Z & Kanye West. It is said to be made by someone named Jru. I don’t know this person at all. Since the track list was put out already, we knew it was not going to be on the album. However, some people like Macbook 4sale and myself feel that it would be a good beat for Hov & Kanye, and possibly a good beat for the “Watch The Throne” album Obviously it would have to be listened to and revised, but it is a good start to something that I feel can be made into a really great song for Hov & Kanye.

  263. Richy Spokes says:

Ha yeah i neglected to say it to, otis is incredible, so soulful, sounds like old Yeezy again!! Now Hov and Yeezy get on THUNDER BEAT!!!!!!!!

  264. @ Demetrius Love Jr. I totally agree with you! It’s a great beat for a Hov/Ye song! To bad they didn’t use it for ‘Watch the Throne’

  265. @Marijn de Boer

Yeah I know. It sounds like something that Kanye made don’t it?

  266. Reggie Kendrick says:

This cut is FIERCE… to all those that don’t like it, I can tell ya’ll much prefer the sounds of Drakeville, Weezieburg, Mileytown and cRaponia. This song “Otis” is dope! Classic back-n-forth rhyming with a dope sample. No overly loud saw-synthesizer blaring on an overly loud hook… just a dope sample played throughout. This is what Hip Hop sounds like young’nz… you’ve just been conditioned and blinded by commercial cRap radio and “Hip Pop”. Get a clue… lamers! Note to Kanye… plz turn down that compression on Jay’s vocals. Beautiful song thought… Long live Hip-Hop!

  267. Macbook 4sale says:

@Lifeandtimes. Alright to get to the THUNDERBEAT go to youtube and type in “thunder watch the throne” It will be the first video with “Thunder” “Jay-z x Kanye West” “watch the throne” in red letters. It is the sickest beat. And please confirm @lifeandtimes that you are Jay-Z so I can faint. -A Fan.

okay i listened to “Thunderbeat” it is actually pretty good.

Throne is finished and ready for the world but, maybe next time. _

  269. @LifeandTimes

Well it’s nice to meet you Hov. You are my favorite artist by the way. When I listened to the “Thunderbeat” it sounded like something that you and Kanye would be perfect on, but like you said maybe next time. I got that “Otis” on repeat. Same with “H.A.M.” Can’t wait to hear the rest of the album. I know it’s going to be a classic for real, cause when put out a track like “Otis” and got everybody rocking, that’s something right there. That album is going be something that you can just put on anytime, and just rock. I mean I still listen to albums like “Ready to Die” & “Reasonable Doubt” like they are new!!! Keep it up man, and I can’t wait to see you and Yeezy at the “Watch The Throne” concert!!!

  270. Nikki Wright says:

    Please drop this…. I need it…on….my system….NICENESS!

  271. Macbook 4sale says:

    @Lifeandtimes

I just came too. Its been a good 18 hours! Thanks Jay glad you liked the beat. It feels made for you and ‘ye. But maybe the next album or just a “mix-single”. I know you are Jay-Z so you don’t have to do a mixtape but a mix-single or freestyle over Thunder would be great. Maybe get Flex to set it up next time you are floating around doing interviews. Just throwing out ideas 🙂

Also, you’ve been my favorite artist for a while and you’ve had quite the influence. The “I will not lose” anthem has taken me pretty far in life. If you want to know how far you’ll have to send me an email it might surprise you. Thanks again and I’m looking forward to the album.

  272. @Macbook

I feel you on that one man. The “I will not lose” anthem, is good to apply to life. Always have that feeling in your heart that you can overcome anything.

    @Lifeandtimes

I also wanted to say that you have been an influence to me as well. You being in the rap game for so long, putting out so many great records, having all these haters telling you to quit, and you just keep coming, just goes to show how much you love your job. That has taught me that when I get my career going, to keep riding till the wheels fall off. Music is also my passion. I wanna be a producer, just like Kanye, but I wanna do it the classic way. With turntables and vinyls. If it was done before, it can be done again. I wanna bring it back to hip-hop. Again, can’t wait to hear the album.
