Following five teens and their families throughout the course of a year, Bully, from Sundance and Emmy award winning filmmaker Lee Hirsch, is an insightful look into the previously taboo and social epidemic of bullying, an act that will affect over 13 million American children this year. In this exclusive clip, Life + Times takes a look at Alex Libby’s life on his bus ride to and from school. Bully (rated PG-13) opens nationwide this weekend. I just don’t understand what is going on here. Why is bus driver not doing anything about this? Can they not pull over and have the children removed from the bus? I can’t even imagine as an adult just sitting by and doing nothing!!

I don’t think it’s right to write negative things about the bully or write that you would beat him up. Aren’t you then being the same way? The bible says to love your enemies & to pray for them. My son has been bullied big time since he was in the 3rd grade & is now in the 7th & is home schooled now because of being bullied. We need to educate not beat up or tear down & we need to pray. Teach our kids self defense and self control and to speak up. Especially the adults (who should know better) should speak up or risk losing their job.

this is sad, but as a kid and former target in school, staff DONT do anything. kids would be mean to me RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE TEACHERS, then nothing happens. if you ask any kid in school, they would agree with me. its very sad.

Reading through these comments and having some insight on the schools and staff…they literally don’t do anything about the bullies. “Kids will be kids” is the most common response. Watching this clip and even the other clips from the movie completely break my heart and it is so hard to watch. I really don’t understand what is wrong with the “adults” who witness this and do absolutely nothing. Obviously the kids who are bullying Alex in this clip have some other issues going on…I don’t agree with beating them up, but again, where is the adult?! The bus driver is watching it in the mirror and does nothing…at school kids are bullied all the time and teachers look the other way. What is the point of being a teacher to edcuate and be an example to kids if you’re not even going to stand up for them. What, were they bullied as a kid and can’t face it? Guess what? YOU ARE THE ADULT AND THE TEACHER. Stand up, act like the educated administrator that you signed up to be a be a freaking example. It kills me that they would rather look the other way then make a statement to their own kids and stop some of the violence that’s going on right in front of them. Absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable, teachers. I know they have a diffucult job, many of my friends are teachers adn I admire them for what they do day in and day out with their classes, however, watching a kid get punched repeatedly and not doing a damn thing about it is the worst thing you could do. Seriously…they’re the student you’re the teacher-act like it!

WTF,The bus driver actually looked like he was smiling in the mirror

To the parents of the FAT bully. YOU are the monsters here. Not the fat kid. He is solely a product of you parenting skills, or lack there of. In our country, you have to have a license to practice law, medicine, to drive, even to pour a drink. But obviously any idiot is allowed to have children. Take a parenting class, read a book, do SOMETHING! **IDEA: the sequel should follow the parents of these bullies around and show us how and why their fat kids are such monsters. -Jesus loves you.

It makes my stomache upset and my heart hurt. I don’t understand this behavior-my kids were taught to protect the underdog not beat them down that’s terrible.

I couldn’t even watch this. I cried the moment I saw this sweet, innocent child being bullied. I was bullied as a youth almost 30 years ago and I still remember it like it happened yesterday.

The schools have allowed it to be normalized by their non-judgemental attitudes. Every kid has a right to be heard, but no one has the right to put their hands on someone else. Back in the day, that bus would stop and the bully dealt with by the driver, again by the principal and even more so when he got home. Now it’s ignored and thus it continues and escalates. And they hold little seminars at best, and do nothing at worst.

All it would take is for ALL of the adults to step up to make this stop. You don’t need a movement, you need adults to agree to take on their role of managing kids..from teachers to parents to the community.. Yet so many people have abdicated that responsibility these days. LIterally thrown in the towel and they act out. Behold what feral children look like. Children raising themselves without knowing right from wrong. They are our future. How do you feel about that?

Children will not learn what they have not been taught.

PLEASE don’t be so quick as to blame the parents. Everyone automatically assumes it’s the parents’ fault (and sometimes it is) but how much do these little monsters learn from video games? TV? the internet? their miserable little friends??? I parented 2 kids myself and can tell you that no matter how decent your home life is, very often your kids have minds of their own and don’t give a damn what you try to teach them and they CERTAINLY don’t practice what YOU preach when you’re not around! So please don’t blame the parents. In this case BLAME THE DAMN BUSDRIVER!!! I mean, WHAT THE HELL??? You just sit and pretend like it’s not happening. This absolutely sickens me. I wish to hell I could beat the crap out of that fat miserable little monster, but I guess that would make me just as bad as him. Thank god Alex made it out alive, and even better, has achieved ROCK STAR STATUS! Yay Alex! And yay Lee Hirsch!!!

Its about damn time light has been brought to bullying. Its not something that has to be accepted and overlooked. Things need to change.

The fattie needs to get his ass kicked by someone who weighs twice as much as him. Let’s see if he thinks that’s funny.

Tht isn’t fair. No one deserves to get bullied.

Bullying sucks and I remember those days–always steering clear of the dudes who promised to make your day harder than it already was. The bullying I am referring to was dodging Crips and Bloods in South Central LA for most of my teenage life. Nice to see folks bringing attention to the difficult times that a lot of young people’s face on a day to day basis.

I just watched Bully on netflix and I could not believe that bus driver did nothing to help Alex!! Also, Alex’ parents, at times, sounded like they were blaming him. His dad asked him what he would do if his sister were being bullied, his mom was asking him if getting hit, etc made him feel good and his sister told him she gets picked on at school because he is her brother and kids think he’s weird. Who or where can this young man turn to? I hope he is doing well in OK. Alex, if you read this, I just want you to know there are people out here who care.
