“I produced a record in like 2003 in the countryside in France and they had a mixing console called a Flickinger and I just loved it—I never worked on one before. Loved it. And I started researching… they’d only ever made like 28 of them. Even though they made so few, all the greats had one, like Johnny Cash had one, Keith Richards had one, Ike and Tina Turner had one, Funkadelic had one. All the greats had a Flickinger. And I was just looking around and found someone had Sly Stone’s Flickinger console, and I was like, ‘Wow!’ We found it in a studio in a place called Benton Harbor in Michigan that neither of us had ever heard of and we just decided to risk it and go out there and check it out. And we went out there and it couldn’t have been better ‘cause it’s an absolutely incredible studio. It’s run by two of our best friends. We’ve been going there ever since.” – Hince
