“When you’re in a band with friends, it’s really important to reach a consensus about everything. There’s not a leader. And you realize that it really restricts you and really waters music down. I think you have to be a dictator with music. When you’re creating something, you have to be a dictator and you have to tell it the way it is. After a while, I didn’t feel like I was playing music in the way that I wanted to, in the style I wanted to [in past bands]. I though it was just this watered down thing. It’s less watered down now when you’ve got two people. And it’s two people with that aim to make the same viewpoint and process it the same way. We want that to be the case.
