“This was the beginning of fame for D’Angelo. He had recently dropped the single “Brown Sugar” and was gearing up to release his album of the same title. The photos were to accompany an article in the British magazine, The Face. I chose 125th Street in Harlem, because of my own roots and because it’s one of the few places in NY where you can also feel a bit of that southern soul vibe. I was more into reality and street, rather than the more produced and polished look I got into later down the line.”
