Opened doors for so many artists. Without the Beastie Boys there is no Red Hot Chili Peppers, Linkin Park, Limp Biskit (not a fan but they had a following), POD, the list goes on. These guys were pioneers of mixing rock sound w/ rap lyrics and they were the first legitimate white boys that were respected lyrically. They opened the door for both white and black artists with the music they made. One love and rest in peace to MCA

1986 is when it began for me. I studied the lyrics to Paul Revere until I could recite the whole damn thing. Alone most of the time the boys from Brooklyn kept me happy and sane. Thank you MTV for playing them over and over. They trashed Louisville and I thought they were gods. Paul’s Boutique led me through puberty and I learned to appreciate samples, skater boys, Johnny Cash and learned what Bouillabaisse actually was. I can’t even begin to express my obsession with Check Your Head. I invested in overalls, bought parts to build my own lowrider bicycle, fell in love with the Knicks, Buddhism, Biz Markie and my turntable. I bought imports, colored vinyl and when Ill Communication came out, I cut school to be the first one through NRM’s doors to buy the album. My first husband and some other friends drove to my first out of state show to see them live. I have “Beastie Girl” embossed on my damn high school yearbook. My walls were plastered with Adidas, beanie caps and graffiti script. MCA, Mike D and Adrock kept me in check, straight edge and self aware. I love what you were then and I love what you became and I will miss Adam Yauch so much for being beautiful, creative, strong and inspirational. Namaste.

A huge influence on the world I grew up in, always original, and broad enough to bridge the music lovers of old and new. I never met him but it wasn’t hard to tell how universal of a spirit he was. Long live your music Adam, and long live your influences on us.

and loved the BOYS…and a loss for Brooklyn. He was such a big part of the city, the streets of
Brooklyn sound a bit quiet tonight-as if moiurning with us.RIP MCA, travel to your next destination

One third of one of the best bands I have ever seen.They could do it all – punk, funk and rap – and will never be the same without him – can’t imagine what Family, Adam and Mike must be feeling at the moment. I feel like I’ve lost a brother so can only imagine their pain. I can only hope MCA understood what his music means to us.
