“Ghetto Supastar” (That Is What You Are) – Pras, Ol’ Dirty Bastard & Mya

Around that time there was a movie that was coming out called Bulworth. They asked us to do a song for the soundtrack. When you’re from the islands you’re into country music. If you listen to all the melodies in reggae, you’ll hear country music. “Ghetto Supastar” sampled the hook from the Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton record “Islands in the Stream.” That was a classic record, so we had to flip it and bring it to Brooklyn. We had to make it as hard as possible. Everyone knows that hook, the lyrics and that melody. People on the streets of Brooklyn and people in Texas could chill with it. So many people know that record, so we had to flip it. We were still in that Fugees slash The Score vibe too.
