Working on The Fugees’ The Score Album

Nobody thought that album was going to be anything like that. We just knew we were great musicians. We knew that we loved what we were doing and that we loved being creative. That was the magic with that album. We just wanted to make sure we had a great album, so we could go out and tour. After touring with that first album we felt like we had to create something very special. Nobody thought it was going to be big. If we knew there are a lot of things we could’ve done [laughs]. We would’ve taken pictures and videos – a lot of things! We were just having fun. That album was so special. The Fugees did two albums. The first album is what put The Fugees on the map. I did like one record on that first album, but I co-executive produced The Score. It was the foundation for everything I’m doing right now. I think the key to The Score was that everybody brought something to the table. Lauryn is crazy with sampling. She would come with crazy, classic samples. I would cut all of these samples and create drum patterns and baselines. We all added something. Shout out to Salaam Remi also. He was another key person that was a part of The Score.
